Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review composition

The Simba Hybrid Pro is an upgraded version of the original Simba Hybrid mattress.

Simba Hybrid Pro mattress composition

It features eight layers of premium materials to create one of the most luxurious mattresses in the UK market.

1. Simba Hybrid Pro mattress cover

The Simba Hybrid Pro features a breathable sleep surface with cool-touch Stratos technology.

This 750g hypoallergenic knitted cover is softer and more luxurious than the 500g knitted cover of the original mattress.

This is not a lightweight mattress and it does need to be rotated head-to-toe every few months, so the larger-sized options all have four convenient side handles to make this easier.

Unfortunately, the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress cover is not machine-washable.

Simba Sleep recommends spot-cleaning it in case of stains but we’d highly recommend using a waterproof mattress protector to safeguard your mattress against dirt, spills, stains, and bacteria.

The Simba mattress protector is luxuriuously quilted but it's only water-resistent, not waterproof, so check out the Hypnia mattress protector or Nectar mattress protector instead.

2. Natural wool layer

The top layer of natural British wool [1] is unique to the Simba Hybrid Pro, added in to help with heat regulation. 🐑

Wool has moisture-wicking properties and is naturally thermoregulating, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

simba hybrid pro wool layer

It's also naturally resistant to bacteria, making it a great hypoallergenic [2] material to use in mattresses and bedding.

3. Comfort layer of open-cell graphite-infused Simbatex foam

The company-branded Simbatex foam makes up the comfort layer of the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress.

This open-cell foam layer features larger pores and has been developed to be much more breathable than memory foam, providing greater airflow.

This Simbatex comfort layer also features graphite particles for additional cooling properties.

4. + 5. Two layers of conical mini pocket springs

The Simba Hybrid Pro features a dual layer of up to 4,800 titanium alloy Aerocoil mini pocket springs (2.5 cm in height), manufactured in Leeds.

These pocket springs provide bounce, high body adaptability, and even pressure distribution.

The Simba Hybrid Pro pocket springs are conical, which allows them to be easily compressed and results in superior body adaptaion.

The spaces between the springs also create natural ventilation channels, further enhancing airflow and preventing overheating.

They are enclosed in 100% polyester pockets, which increases motion isolation and protects the surrounding foams.

It's worth noting that the fabric pockets compress the springs slightly, making this layer a bit thinner than you’d expect when looking at the height of the springs.

6. CertiPUR foam stability layer

The layer of CertiPUR foam delivers both structure and support, acting as a bridge between the Aerocoil spring layers and the SupportCore base.

7. No roll-off SupportCore

The core of the Simba Hybrid Pro is made up of 1,000 tempered steel barrel springs.

They collaboratively offer robust support across the entire mattress, enabling sleep right up to the edges without any sagging.

They are also encased in fabric to allow independent response to pressure.

By using springs at the core, this mattress contains 68% less foam than previous versions.

8. Simba ReGen base layer

The Simba ReGen layer is the new mattress base layer.

It's crafted from surplus foam and repurposed into a premium product that adheres to stringent density standards. 🛏️

All the foam utilised meets the CertiPUR standard [3], ensuring it's devoid of environmental pollutants and harmful substances.

The Hybrid Pro is currently Simba's best-selling mattress.

What does sleeping on the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress feel like?

The Simba Hybrid Pro is a super comfortable mattress, and we've tested all aspects of what it feels like to sleep on for you.

How comfortable is the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress?

The Simba Pro Hybrid is a great mattress that’s very comfortable and very supportive.

  • The top layers give it softness and give you something to sink into, which is great if you’re a side sleeper.
  • But you’ll also feel a strong level of firmness once you hit the supportive layers underneath, which is great for front and back support. Front and back sleepers generally need a firmer mattress with good pressure distribution to carry the weight of the body without too much sinkage.

We really liked the hybrid nature of this mattress.

Since it contains up to 4,800 mini pocket springs, it's quite a bit bouncier, offers great support and pressure relief, adapts to your body really well, and is easy to move around on.

It’s also rare to find a bed-in-a-box mattress that can give heavier-weight people enough firmness and support but the Simba Hybrid Pro, despite its medium-firm rating, does this really well.

Heavier-weight sleepers may find the wool layer a bit too soft and squishy, but they won’t be lacking in support.

How firm is the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress?

The Simba Pro mattress is rated as medium-firm, though we'd set it slightly on the firmer end and have judged it a 6.5 out of 10 on the Sleep Hero firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest.

Simba Hybrid Pro Firmness

When you first lie down on the mattress, you’re likely to experience a comfy and slightly softer, more luxurious feel.

This is due to the dual spring system and additional wool layer.

But while the top is body-contouring and comforting, you’ll quickly feel the firmer support layers underneath - together with the exceptional edge support.

The wool layer also breaks some sinkage, so you can move around on the mattress quite comfortably and won’t feel like you’re sinking into the foams too much or risk sliding off the edges.

In order to give you a proper Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review, though, we relied on a bit of maths and measured how deeply we sank into the foams. 🧮

Measuring sinkage is a good way to determine how supportive a mattress would be for different sleepers.

To test this, we used two different sleepers and measured their sinkage depths in various positions, with the following results:

Person A (1.78 m / 65 kg) Person B (1.80 m / 78 kg)
Lying on the back

Shoulder: 5.5 cm

Pelvis: 6 cm

Shoulder: 6.5 cm

Pelvis: 7.5 cm

Lying on the side

Shoulder: 7.5 cm

Pelvis: 7 cm

Shoulder: 8 cm

Pelvis: 7.5 cm

As you can see, sinkage depths for the side position are quite a bit deeper than in the back position - this is important.

simba hybrid pro side sleeper

It’s relatively easy for your spine to remain in its optimal alignment if you’re sleeping on your front or back (provided the mattress is firm enough to support you).

But side sleepers need the mattress to play along a bit more.

Weight is concentrated at two peak points, the shoulders and the hips.

These two parts of the body need to be able to sink in much deeper than the lighter parts of the body so that the spine remains in its optimal alignment.

The Simba Hybrid Pro does this exceptionally well.

Does the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress sleep hot?

Simba has spent a significant amount of time developing a mattress with superior airflow and heat management, and the Simba Hybrid Pro features numerous temperature-regulation features:

  • Soft and breathable cover for enhanced airflow
  • Naturally thermoregulating wool layer
  • Graphite particles in the open-cell foam
  • Springs with natural ventilation channels
  • Grooves in the base foam for greater airflow

Overall, the Simba Hybrid Pro is known for its exceptional temperature regulation.

Simba Hybrid Pro temperature

But we found that the Simba Hybrid Pro offered more of a medium-warm feel.

Take a look at our temperature image, which demonstrates where heat is stored.

Even though wool is thermoregulating, it can feel a little warmer and more cosy.

The Simba Hybrid Pro may be cooler than memory foam mattresses (which tend to retain more heat), but we still wouldn’t recommend it to very heavy sweaters or people who easily feel hot at night.

You won’t feel too clammy on the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress as the wool layer wicks away moisture quite effectively, but if you’re after a cooler sleep, we’d recommend checking out our top cooling mattresses instead.

Is the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress good for couples?

We think the Simba Hybrid Pro is an excellent choice for couples.

It's not only easy to move around on and offers exceptional edge support, but it also isolates movement pretty well. 🏃‍♀️

  • While springs generally transfer a bit of movement, pocket springs can move independently of each other.
  • At the same time, the wool top layer and top comfort layers absorb movements really well.

This all results in overall low motion transfer, meaning that movements are absorbed at the point of impact and won’t be carried through the mattress.

It also means that your partner tossing and turning at the other end of the bed won’t wake you up! 💃

In order to give you the most accurate information, we've made a point of testing motion isolation for our Simba Hybrid Pro mattress review.

Take a look at the two images below:

Simba Hybrid Pro getting in and out of bed

Simba Hybrid Pro motion transfer

These images illustrate the transfer of motion:

  • Left image: Motion transfer when getting in and out of bed
  • Right image: Motion transfer when turning around on the mattress

As you can see, there is some transfer of motion when you climb into bed or get up again, but there is much less transfer of motion when you turn around on the mattress.

This confirms that the Simba Hybrid Pro has low overall motion transfer.

Overall, we can comfortably conclude that the Simba Hybrid Pro is a fantastic mattress well-suited to side sleepers looking for good body contouring, restless sleepers and couples, and those after a medium-firm feel with medium-warm temperature.

Simba Hybrid Pro mattress delivery conditions and trial

The Simba Hybrid Pro is delivered rolled up and vacuum-sealed in a compact box.

Simba Hybrid Pro mattress unboxing

It’s worth mentioning that the Simba Pro Hybrid mattress can be quite heavy, depending on the size ordered, and you may need to ask a friend or family member to help you carry it.

How to unbox your Simba Hybrid Pro mattress

If you’re new to bed-in-a-box mattresses, you may be wondering how you’ll get a full-size mattress out of the tiny box it’s delivered in.

Luckily, unboxing online mattresses is super easy:

  • Open the box and take out your mattress.
  • Unroll the mattress on your bed support base.
  • Cut the plastic with the handy cutter provided to break the vacuum seal.
  • Wait for your mattress to expand.

The Simba mattress should reach its full size within 3 - 6 hours, but it may take up to 72 hours to expand completely. ⏰

What is off-gassing?

You may notice an odd chemical smell coming from your mattress when you first unpack it.

This is called off-gassing, and it’s completely normal.

The fumes are merely a result of the production process, and they’re not toxic or harmful in any way.

We didn’t experience any off-gassing, but we’d still recommend you unbox your mattress in a well-ventilated room and let it air out a bit. 🏡

If there is a smell, it will dissipate quickly.

Does the Simba Hybrid Pro mattress come with a trial period?

Every Simba mattress UK comes with a risk-free 200-night trial period.

This begins as soon as the mattress has been delivered.

The industry standard is 100 nights, so Simba Sleep gives you a significantly longer time to test the mattress.

Trial periods are very important, and we firmly believe that it’s impossible to tell if a mattress is right for you by just lying on it for a few minutes in a shop - or even for just one night.

It can take your body up to three weeks to get used to a new mattress, especially if it's vastly different to what you’re used to.

A trial period gives you the chance to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home for an extended period of time.

How to return a Simba Hybrid Pro mattress

If you’ve tried the Simba mattress and don’t think it’s right for you, you can return it for a full refund.

To do this, simply contact Simba customer services, and they’ll organise the whole process for you.

Returns are free of charge, and you don’t even have to keep the original packaging.

Once returned, you’ll receive a full refund within a few days.

What happens to returned Simba mattress?

Don’t worry; returned mattresses don’t go to waste.

All returned Simba mattresses are refurbished for re-sale, recycled, or donated to charities. ♻️

You can find Simba refurbished mattresses on their site for a reduced price.

All Simba mattresses, including the Simba Hybrid Pro, come with a 10-year warranty.

Should you buy the Simba Hybrid Pro?

The Simba Hybrid Pro is one of the best mattresses on the market and will certainly offer you a good night’s sleep.

We would recommend the Simba Hybrid Pro to:

  • All sleepers, but particularly side sleepers
  • People who enjoy good body-contouring
  • Average-weight and heavier-weight people
  • People who like a medium-firm feel
  • Restless sleepers and couples
  • Those after a plushier and more luxurious feel

But for lighter-weight sleepers, people who easily feel hot at night, and people on more of a budget, the Simba Hybrid is still a better deal. 💤

If budget isn’t a concern for you, we’d also recommend you look at the more advanced Simba Hybrid Luxe, which rectifies some of the shortcomings of the Simba Hybrid Pro.
